Author ANNA LANYON ‘A Jewish Martyr in Sixteenth Century Mexico’


Anna Lanyon was born in Melbourne and studied Spanish, Portuguese and History at La Trobe University. She travelled widely before settling with her husband and three children near Portland, on the south Coast of Victoria. She teaches and translates Spanish, and is the author of Malinche’s Conquest (2000) and The New World of Martin Cortes (2003). Malinche’s Conquest won the NSW Premier’s History Prize 2000 and was translated into five languages.

Fire and Song: The Story of Luis de Carvajal and the Mexican Inquisition is the compelling narrative about one family’s resistance to religious persecution and their loyalty to their faith during the time of the Mexican Inquisition.

Date & Time: Thursday May 31st @ 12.15 pm (for a 12.30 start) until 1.30 pm

Location: East Melbourne Synagogue, 488 Albert Street East Melbourne

Entry fee, including light kosher lunch: $15.00
