The Rite Stuff: Rituals for Hope and Healing, Remembrance and Recovery

Ritual - what do YOU do when a ritual is needed for a group or a family or an individual? Sometimes it's loss, sometimes it's celebration, sometimes ... the list is endless. And sometimes we all feel lost for words and ideas. That's the topic of the first professional development event for 2015 organised by Spiritual Care Australia (Vic branch).

Keynote Speakers: Helen Summers and Jennifer Greenham

More about the Speakers: The keynote speakers will be two interfaith ministers - Helen Summers and Jennifer Greenham who have a special interest in the sharing of wisdom resources across traditions. Both are ordained interfaith ministers and Helen is founder of Melbourne's Interfaith Centre. Both are ordained interfaith ministers and Helen is found of Melbourne's Interfaith Centre. Helen is widely recognised for her expertise in arts and culture across faith traditions. Jennifer is engaged in interfaith chaplaincy at Swinburne University and in emergency ministry through the Victorian Council of Churches. 

Three practitioners with experience in offering inclusive liturgies in specific situations will give examples of different approaches:

• Andy Calder organises a statewide service for people who have experienced road trauma. He works for the Uniting Church in disability inclusion and is a CPE supervisor.
• Denise Same offers ritual for people bereaved through the death of children in her work with SIDS and Kids. A social worker and therapist, she has also worked for Jewish Care.
• Cheryl Lawrie facilitates ritual and sacred spaces in the prison system. She works for the Uniting Church, exploring the intersections of faith, culture and context.

There will be time for YOU, too, with Q&A and networking over afternoon tea and drinks and nibbles at the end. All interested people are welcome but be sure to register soon! Space is limited.

Cost: This event is free to 2014/15 SCA members. General admission is $50. Cost is $25 for volunteers, students, and those attending from an SCA Organisational member.
