Gesher is the annual journal of the Council of Christians and Jews Victoria. It promotes the aims of the Council which are to educate Christians and Jews to appreciate each other’s distinctive beliefs and practices and their common ground; to promote the study of and research into the historical, political, economic, social, religious and racial causes of conflicts between people of different creeds and colour; and to promote, for the benefit of the community, education in those fundamental ethical teachings common to Christianity and Judaism which relate to respect and understanding between people of different creeds.
Speaker: Mark Leibler is one of Australia’s leading lawyers advising many governments on tax issues, Mark and his law firm Arnold Bloch Leibler have championed indigenous rights, providing pro bono services on many occasions and on many issues. He has served on the Board of Reconciliation and co-chairs the Expert Panel on Constitutional Recognition of Indigenous Australians. Mark was named one of the 50 most influential Jews in the World. He has served as head of the United Israel Appeal, Zionist Federation of Australia whilst serving on and heading numerous international Jewish organisations. Mark was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia in 2005.
