On Sunday 15 March 2015, the Jewish Christian Muslim Association of Australia (JCMA) Women’s Committee held a forum titled 'Understanding the Head Covering: a Jewish, Christian & Muslim Perspective'. The forum provided a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate the significance of the head covering in each of the three Abrahamic faiths.

A light lunch was served with a chance to meet old friends and meet new ones followed by our four speakers and Q&A session.

Many thanks to Rufiath Yousuff, Board Member of JCMA and Vice-Chair of Benevolence Australia and our speakers:

  • Sherene Hassan - Director, Islamic Museum of Australia

  • Catriona Devlin - Coordinator Kildara Spirituality Centre, Sister at Brigidine Order

The forum was a partnership between JCMA Women's Committee and Benevolence Australia. More than 40 women from the three faith traditions attended and the forum was characterised by a lively interest in the topic. The speakers provided both personal and historical contexts for covering in the three traditions from the point of view of their respective faith tradition.

Benevolence Australia was a very pleasant setting for such an event. Lunch provided at the commencement of the forum was an occasion for participants to meet and chat.
