On Saturday 1 September 2012, Lajna Imaillah, the Women’s Auxiliary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association of Victoria, organised an Interfaith Peace Symposium lunch at Ahmadiyya Community Centre in Langwarrin.
The aim of this event was to invite delegates from different faith traditions to share views on achieving global peace in the light of their religious teachings.
The program began at 11:15am with the recitation of Holy Quran followed by an English translation. A brief multimedia documentary about Ahmadiyya Muslim Association was then presented.
This was followed by talks from 8 guest speakers from different cultural and faith backgrounds. The speakers were:
Khola Usman from Ahmadiyya Muslim Association explained how Ahmadi’s are being violated in Pakistan and other Muslim countries and how Ahmadi’s have shown great patience and tolerance as they try to follow the examples set by the founder of Islam Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).
Aside from the above guest speakers, a number of Councillors attended the event adding their inspiring views: Cr Meg Downie (Manningham Council), Cr. Judy Owen (Casey Council) and Cr Chris Richards (Frankston Council).
All speakers focussed on the important point that peace must be attained at an individual level first. Each speaker was presented with a souvenir by the President of Lajna Imaillah Mrs. Kaukab Nasir, as a reminder of the Peace Symposium.
Lunch was then served followed by a walk through the Holy Quran exhibition which included paintings by Lajna members.
The Peace Symposium was a successful event organised by Lajna Imaillah, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Victoria Women Auxiliary, and well received by all guests and delegates.
