The Indian Diaspora, published by D. K. Printworld, Delhi, covers the theory of diaspora, the historical development of the Indian communities in Australia since the late 19th century to the present times, current practices and statistical profiles of Hindus and Sikhs in Australia, and interactions between Hindus and Sikhs with the wider Australian community. There are case studies of the Indian students and women in the Australian community, of Indian communities in Melbourne and South Australia, and of temple building. This substantial work (466pp) has been edited by Professor Purushottama Bilimoria (Deakin and Melbourne Universities), an internationally-known scholar of philosophy and religion, Dr Jayant Bhalchandra Bapat (Adjunct Research Associate, Monash University), one of Australia's most senior Hindu priests and a scholar of Hinduism, and Dr Philip Hughes (Christian Research Association), a leading analysist of the sociology of religion in Australia. It also contains contributions from several other prominent scholars, including special essays on the importance of diaspora by the late Ninian Smart, on the 19th century Afghan cameleers and Indian hawkers by Richard Forster with other contributions from the editors and Dr Salim Lakha (Melbourne), Dr Michael Steveson (Monash), Surjit Dhanji (Monash), Manpreet Kaur (SBS), Dr Margaret Kumar (Deakin), Dr Heather Foster (Adelaide), and Dr Carmen Voigt-Graf (ANU).
 
A limited number of copies will be available at the launch for $40; the expected retail price will be $65.
