Faith, Sexuality & Gender Diversity

Location: Darebin Intercultural Centre, 59A Roseberry Avenue, Preston
Darebin City Council is hosting a forum for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia featuring a panel of people of faith, faith leaders and experts to explore the intersections of faith and sexuality and gender diversity.
From a base of human dignity and respect, the panel will explore the themes below:
- How can religious individuals and communities retain faith and embrace sexual and gender diversity?
- Can faith communities play a role in promoting the inclusion and stamping out discrimination against LGBTI people?
- Can the principles of inter-culturalism extend to LGBTIQ communities?
The Panel will feature Moderator Avraham Schwarz and Speakers:
- Luke Gahan (Researcher, La Trobe University and Editor of the book Heaven Bent: Australian lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex experiences of faith, religion and spirituality)
- Sally Goldner (Executive Director Transgender Victoria, and a member of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria GLBT reference group.)
- Rev. Peter Batten (Uniting Church Northcote)
- Pastor. Becky Bauer (Acts2Faith Church, Northcote).
