 Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter, traditionally a time of fasting and reflection. It begins with Ash Wednesday, where ashes are marked on worshippers as a sign of penitence. The day before Lent begins is known as Shrove Tuesday, a day to clean the soul, and a day of celebration as the last chance to feast before Lent begins.
