 he Jewish textual tradition. A PhD from the University of Virginia\, she i
 s particularly interested in the possibility that &ldquo\;troubling texts&
 rdquo\; &ndash\; violent or otherwise ethically challenging biblical and r
 abbinic passages &ndash\; can be good philosophical\, ethical\, and politi
 cal tools. She is co-editor of the Journal of Jewish Ethics and directs th
 e Sacred Texts and Ethics Group at the American Academy of Religion. She i
 s visiting Australia as a guest of Limmud Oz.\n&ldquo\;Something dreadful&
 rdquo\; is a quote from Martin Buber\, and this talk will take a detailed 
 look at the passage it is quoted from\, and will explore some of the&nbsp\
 ;texts that Buber and others consider to be the most terrible and troublin
