Darebin Intercultural Centre invites you to:

You can't ask that... can you? Muslim Women

Date: Tuesday 17 March 2020      Time: 6pm to 7pm
Location: Darebin Intercultural Centre, 59A Roseberry Ave, Preston, VIC 3072

Our panel will set the record straight about what it's really like to be a Muslim woman in Melbourne. Our panelists will answer the hard and sometimes awkward questions that you've always really wanted to know the answer to but haven't been brave enough to ask.

Panellists include:

Hana Assafiri OAM: of Moroccan Soup Bar and ‘Speed Date a Muslim’ fame. In 2017 Hana was inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women, celebrating her contribution made to local communities and human rights. She has also been awarded an Order of Australia Medal.

Munira Yusuf: works at the Australian Muslim Women’s Centre for Human Rights. Munira holds a Bachelors in Psychology/Psychophysiology and a Masters in International Development.

Manal Shehab: Passionate about empowering women through education, as well as counteracting the Islamaphobic rhetoric currently on offer by building bridges and breaking walls one conversation at a time.  She is a Faith-based Counsellor at Muslim Youth, Adult and Family Services, Team Leader at WIRE Women's Information, and Psychoeducation Program Group Facilitator with SHARC Family DrugHelp.

Isabel Jackson: Researcher, facilitator, trainer and practitioner with extensive experience in higher education, as well as with professional and community based arts and cultural groups. Specialist in sociology, dance and movement.

Submit your questions before Thursday 27 February to or by phoning 8470 8440. All questions that come from a genuine place of curiosity will be answered with honesty, insightfulness and often heart-warming humour.
